I have a somewhat very similar problem as Lady Gwen, at this moment I own Windows 8 Pro, This computer I have started to use only three days ago. After installing Eve Online to this computer, almost everything I do on Eve makes it freeze and crash. Resulting me to end the task or restart the computer. Really ticked me off when it freezed during a fight and I lost my ship :/ Yay technical difficulties.
Any suggestions or help guys? Thanks.
My computer has 12gb of ram and Intel Core i7 3770 at 3.40GHz In general, the Dell XPS 8500. |

I have Radeon..I also run many other games so I doubt it's Radeon, and I THINK it absolutely has to do with W8, because my old computer, which I still have, is windows vista and Eve worked fine on it, perfectly fine. No problems, no crashes. Only this computer I have has begun issues. |

I think all we can hope for is Eve to support windows 8 in the future...Right now what I discovered that sometimes running as administrator reduces the crashing. Was able to play for a hour or so before I had to alt-tab, came back but crashed(Ah well). I just hope I don't have to go buy W7 Pro and downgrade windows 8...To much a hassle. |

I'd rather put those bucks in to another game until someone gets his fingers out of the warm hole to fix our issues. Downgrade OS to play Eve ?? lol?
Eve is just that awesome man. Lol. |

Any idea when games start to support Windows 8? It's fine for my other games so far but Eve Online, I just want it to work without risk of crashing during a lvl 4 mission :/ |

Microsoft Win8 does not drive space ships coded from another age. Can you please post your CPU and MB specs: Manufacturer, type, version (ex lynfield, 1st generation/3rd generation i5/i7/AMD/whatever etc), thanks
By Manufacture, Dell
Desktop Computer
Intel Core i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40 GHz
Ram: 12GB Memory:2TB Windows 8
And also I have EVE on steam, it wont show compatability tab as a go into properties HOWEVER for steam It does so I am going to have to assume as I run STEAM in Windows 7 mode that when I run other games from it, it will be in windows 7 mode too? |

Note: If anyone knows how to run EVE itself on windows 7 compatibility mode please share, I have it on STEAM so since it wont show the option in properies as I rightclick the desktop icon, I did it to STEAM and it didn't really make a difference. I still crash as I lock onto things or hell, even during warp. Now it's getting annoying to do exploration. |

Blue Harrier wrote:To set Eve to use a compatibility mode do the following, you may need all or only some of the steps depending on how you already have your computer set up. As I donGÇÖt use compatibility mode to run Eve I give no guarantee this will work for you.
From the metro interface click the GÇÿDesktopGÇÖ icon On the desktop click the folder icon on the left of the taskbar, it may open as a Library view Click the GÇÿComputerGÇÖ section to open the computer disk and file browser Use this to navigate to the folder in which you have installed Eve
IGÇÖm not sure how Eve is installed with Steam as IGÇÖve not installed it under Windows 8 but you would need to look somewhere in '\Steam\SteamApps\Common\whatever steam has installed here for eve'
Start with the following files in order, try setting up compatibility mode for each file then testing if Eve will run.
To set compatibility mode, right click each file and from the popup menu select GÇÿPropertiesGÇÖ and from this window click the GÇÿCompatibilityGÇÖ tab. I leave you to adjust the settings or use the automatic system as you require.
Start with \CCP\Eve\bin\ExeFile.exe
Then work back with each of the following testing each change, \CCP\Eve\Launcher\Launcher.exe, \CCP\Eve\eve.exe
Note: the above files may not have the extensions (.exe) visible unless you have turned on GÇÿFile name extensionsGÇÖ from the GÇÿViewGÇÖ menu at the top of the file browser window.
Good luck.
Did it just now going to test it, thanks. |

Jee Audanie wrote:Few issues that I have had (note I have only ever played EVE on Windows 8):
- Since retribution the number of socket closed errors I have had have been quite high
- Since 4 patches ago, EVE decides it does not want to load the client, some basic work arounds have been compatibility mode and/or run as administrator or even uninstalling eve completely.
- At times even can use up to 950MB of Memory at a time (just before it decides that later on it will not load again)
Those are the main two issues when running one or multiple clients that I have had
My issues are just crashing randomly during a fight or just completely random. Ruining my moments. I have attempted compatibility mode AND administrator yet this has not cured it. Trying to get W7 for birthday :/ |

Havent been on this fourm on awhile. However my problems still exist as it's a on and off switch. Sometimes I crash, sometimes I don't. It mainly freezes and crashes while being locked on or locking onto something and also while in combat. When doing anything else, it's fine.
Using Windows 8 Pro. Did not upgrade from W7 (Has also attempted compatability modes that have been said to work and modes suggested by W8.) |
